Flavor Companies Launch New Flavors
Keeping up with e-cigarette flavor trends can be a good way to observe the latest developments from flavor and fragrance companies. Germany's Hertz Flavors & Fragrances, which has a long history in the tobacco industry, is now not only supplying flavors for traditional cigarettes, but has also started making its own e-liquid products. At InterTabac 2022, the company introduced a variety of new flavors of e-liquids, including flavors such as Iced Sugar, White Coffee, Lemon Cheesecake, Coconut Caramel and Banana Cookie. Customers showed strong interest in these new flavors. While fruit-flavored e-cigarettes currently dominate, more consumers are interested in more complex and exotic e-cigarette flavors. It is expected that disposable e-cigarettes will lose momentum and devices that can be infused with e-liquid will rise, bringing more complex flavored products. Each regional market is different, and the only way to create flavors that appeal to consumers is to be familiar with local tastes. Differences in regulations in different countries have led some countries, such as Denmark and the Netherlands, to ban flavored e-cigarettes other than tobacco flavors, while the European Union is considering a similar ban in scope. Eastern European consumers prefer sweet flavors Trends in e-cigarette flavors vary in the Eastern European market. BimarProject in Eastern Europe says the most popular flavors include bubble gum, blueberry, cola, grape, ice sensation banana and other sweet flavors. Sweet flavors are becoming increasingly important in the Eastern European market, and traditional menthol flavors have lost market share. It is expected that in the future, the Eastern European market will see the rise of e-cigarette products with exotic and multiple complex flavors. In addition, Eastern European consumers are gradually increasing their interest in candy flavors. Despite the popularity of traditional tobacco-flavored e-cigarettes in the U.S. market, they are becoming increasingly unpopular in the Eastern European market. This may be due to the fact that young people are the primary consumers of e-cigarettes and are more interested in experimenting with novel flavors rather than traditional cigarette flavors. In Russia and Belarus, there is currently no excise tax on e-cigarette products, but this may change, with sales of e-cigarettes expected to grow further in Eastern Europe. The rapid growth of the e-cigarette market in the UK has also been notable, with a significant increase in usage, particularly among young women, versus a decline in consumption of traditional cigarettes. VPZ plans to open 15 new stores in the UK, increasing the total number of stores to 160, and launch an e-cigarette recycling service to eliminate the negative environmental impact of disposable e-cigarettes. To ensure that e-cigarettes are not sold to minors, the UK retailer has introduced facial recognition technology to verify the age of purchasers, although the practice can be controversial. Unlike in the UK, Bilka supermarkets in Denmark discontinued the use of facial recognition age verification devices, as this could lead to consumers instead purchasing e-cigarettes in smaller stores that do not have such devices. As a result, the British Retail Consortium has called for the passage of legislation authorizing stores to verify the age of shoppers at the point of sale.
